Out of Everything, Why Bother About Stools
Open any social media, television or go out and look into the hotel menus. Food is such an integral part of our lives. The varieties of food that we intake and have you ever thought of the complicated procedure by which the food going in is getting digested? A healthy gut is what contributes to the health of our entire body. You need to flush out the toxins on a daily basis to maintain the daily detox process. The same reason why our excretory system and digestive system need to coexist in an active functional state.
Rather than seeing the discussions around stools as taboo, bowel disorders need to be addressed carefully. Waste products of the body are the input for negative feedback mechanisms and as they are indicators of proper digestive reactions, it is important you make sure they are formed and eliminated properly as well. For the record, the color, consistency, smell, and size of your stool also thus matters.
What is Considered as a Normal Poop
- Color : Normal poop is brown in colour. And the discolorations can be seen as black, green, yellow, red, or white.
- Smell: You shouldn't be getting perturbed regarding the smell of your poop. It is normally less pungent but strong-smelling because of the presence of bacteria but in cases it becomes pungent enough to suffocate and trouble you, pay attention as that smell might have a whole different story to tell.
- Texture: The normal texture indicating a healthy bowel can seem sausage-like attributed to the shape of intestines and is passed in a single piece or as scattered smaller pieces.
- Frequency: At a normal rate, stools are passed 1-3 times a day depending on the food habits but a normal person if not passing stool at least once a day or thrice a week should be kept under check for the efficacy of his metabolic functions.
Why is Your Poop Porridge Like and Resembles a Pudding
This can be related to the consistency of your stools and is a clear indicator of abnormality. If your poop resembles porridge or pudding-like appearance which is a deviation from normal texture, it can be due to minor diarrhea. Oatmeal-like appearance or a congruity to being mushy can also be considered as an indicator of either diarrhea or intestinal inflammations.
This slight loose appearance, if not being taken care of, can progress into serious issues. Diarrhea being the cause of the formation of loose stools can be due to a triggering food article, or related bowel disorders.
Symptoms of Diarrhoea
None of us are strange to the experience of having a diarrhoea session.! It can be painful and can at times feel like fire going out through the rectum if it is related to ulcerative conditions. It can be mild as well as can be horrible to the state of extreme dehydration. The common symptoms include loose stools which are passed on frequently, constant feeling of urgency to use the toilet, cramps, and abdominal pain. Often diarrhoea can also be found with a feeling of nausea and vomiting associated with it.
Ayurveda and Atisaara
In the classical science of Ayurveda, we consider diarrhoea as Atisaara. As per contemporary science, it explains that an increase in the watery ailments inside the body, taking its toll on the strength of bio-fire and in turn aggravating Vata dosha as a whole, will move the faeces and its mixed-up water content downwards frequently in large quantities leading to the dreadful condition called Atisaara.
The premonitory symptoms as per the ancient system of medicine include pain in the lower abdominal region, non-elimination of flatus, painful flanks, rectum and areas of heart, fatigue, and indigestion. Abdominal distension is also observed.
Causes of Atisaara As Per The Ayurvedic Classics
Overindulgence of heavy food, indigestion of food that are overly fatty, oily, hot, watery, or hard in nature, untimely intake of food, improper administration of oleation therapies, contamination of eatables along with unwholesome physical activities can trigger the guts to the state of Atisaara and similar inflammatory conditions.
Types of Atisara
Ayurveda explains a total of six types of Atisaara namely,
- Vataja (Due to aggravated Vata dosha) - Do you have a noisy expulsion of loose and watery stools? Is it eliminated in smaller quantities? Is it froth mixed, scabelous, and with resemblance to over-burnt jaggery? Does it appear slimy as well? Then you have the Atisara which is caused due to an aggravated Vata dosha.
- Pittaja (Due to aggravated Pitta dosha) - Yellowish like turmeric, green like algae, and foul-smelling watery stools are an indication of Atisaara by aggravated Pitta dosha. It is mostly accompanied by pain during elimination and ulcerative conditions.
- Kaphaja (Due to aggravated Kapha dosha) - White, thready, fatty, slimy, solid, and an appearance of uncooked food. In addition, Kaphaja Atisaara can have extremely foul-smelling, difficult to eliminate, and painful stool passage. The stools are staining in nature and the person can also feel as if he hasn't evacuated although he already did.
- Sannipataja (Due to aggravated Tridoshas) - The classics have explained the concept of Sannipataja Atisaara. Also called the Tridoshaja Atisara, is caused by the aggravation of all the three Tridoshas and the nature of elimination will include the characteristics of all the above-mentioned Atisara types.
- Bhayaja (Due to fear) and Shokaja (Due to grief) - When the mind gets triggered with fear and sorrow, it leads to aggravation of Vata and Pitta dosha, paving way for the elimination of loose and watery stools, the excretion of which is observed to be of floating type, warm and quick.
