Do you have children that you hope will grow up to become confident young adults with a strong chance at a stable and secure life? Raising a child who is compassionate and charitable should be every parent's goal when they find out they are expecting a baby. Children with these traits will be more likely to have a successful future, full of loving and caring relationships. Additionally, these types of children will be less likely to be involved in harmful or dangerous situations. This tutorial will cover some of the steps you should take in order to reach that goal of raising compassionate and charitable children. By the end, you will have a strong understanding of exactly what you need to do next.

What you will need to follow this tutorial

-Yourself
-One or more children
-A strong desire to shape your child's personality in order to set them up for success during the rest of their life

Step by step instructions

1. Bonding

Breastfeeding, the secret scientists have discovered that help mothers bond with their babies. A study carried out by scientists have discovered the action of baby suckling changes how the mother's brain functions that results in a massive rush of oxytocin (love hormone). This chemical increases love, trust and affection for the mother.

Breastfeeding is one of the most beneficial and natural acts you as a new mother can do for your child. Breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months infuses your baby with antibodies that protect against infections and also reduces the risk of chronic illnesses later on in life.

2. Lead by example

Kids are often described as sponges. They soak up and absorb everything they hear and see. This applies to the behaviors they see from their parents as well. If a parent is berating the cashier in line, then the child is going to think that behavior is acceptable. On the other hand, if they see the parent boxing up old clothes to take to the donation center in town, then they are going to learn that is the type of behavior expected from them as an adult.

3. Look for educational opportunities

Educational opportunities, or teaching moments, are the real-time chance to see something and discuss how it could have been handled differently. For example, if your child comes home from school and says they saw a bully on the playground, this can become a teachable moment. The child is able to see first hand the negative behaviors and some of the consequences, and you are able to step in and help them work through the problem. You can discuss how the child acted in a compassionate way during this situation and what they could change for the next time they are in a similar situation in order for their actions to become more effective.

4. Provide chances to use what they've learned

This step takes the most planning, and it should only be completed after your children have already been given some basic skills on how to be compassionate and charitable. One example of how you can provide your child with a chance to use what they've learned is to help them organize a yard sale or bake sale in order to raise funds for a charity. You could also include them in deciding which items are ready to be donated or help them volunteer for an organization. Starting out, you will want to give them as many options as you are able to. This will help them understand all the ways that they can help out, as well as allow them to find something that they love doing.

5. Expose them to other influences

Children hearing things from their parents is a valuable resource. However, the more exposure and reinforcement that children get, the more likely that compassionate and charitable behaviors will become second nature to them. They will see it as an accepted part of participating in society. In addition, they will receive positive feedback from a larger group of people instead of just their parents.

Conclusion

As you can see, raising a child to be compassionate and charitable only takes a few steps, but they are important ones in order to get your child on a successful path for the rest of their life.
