5 Clutter Hotspots And How To Optimize Them
Whether you have a daily cleaning routine, I’m pretty sure you still work to cut clutter all the time. The main issue seems to be around those few magnetic spots which attract things as soon as you clean them up and before you even notice the clutter spreads all over your home. So you clean again and, what do you know, as soon as you leave something there, it automatically draws more stuff in just a matter of hours and you end up tidying again. This whole process leads to lots of stress and wasted Saturdays. Enough is enough, I say, let’s try to keep all clutter at bay and save our weekends. Here are a few clutter hotbeds and ways to restrain the mess:
#1 Clutter Hotspot: Top of Fridge
If it isn’t already taken by your microwave or another bulky kitchen gadget, then it’s probably one of the biggest clutter magnets around your house. A good way to minimize all the crap you have there is to place a medium-sized bowl or a basket on top of it. Clutter will start to vanish slowly from the top of the fridge, filling up the basket and when it’s full, you just sort it out and use it again. But if you want to completely eliminate all clutter from the area, don’t use tricks like this. Instead, place a beautiful vase (or a flower pot) full of lush flowers which will take up all the space and prevent you from using the basket as a bin.
#2 Clutter Hotspot: Drawers
Got a junk drawer? We’re all guilty of stashing all kinds of crap into our drawers. They are small, keep all the mess hidden from your eyes and are quite handy in emergency situations such as when unexpected guests are about to come over. Personally, I love my junk drawer and am not planning on getting rid of it soon. I bet you’re pretty addicted to yours too. To keep everything in order, though, make sure to clear up all drawers on a regular basis, purging away all excess stuff and sorting things out.
#3 Clutter Hotspot: Kitchen Pantry
The kitchen pantry is where we store our favorite snacks, exotic condiments, and other kinds of deliciousness. If you’re one of those people who have four types of vinegar, or a rich collection of bottled sauce, your pantry is probably overflowing. Sometimes with things that are expired and several half-empty jars of the same product.
To get a grip on the things you have and those you need to buy, make sure to establish an order in your kitchen pantry. Divide and conquer, as they say. Sort and throw away everything you won’t eat and split the space into sections. Place products into categories such as “For baking”, “Sauces” and “Condiments” and make sure to include it in your monthly cleaning checklist.
#4 Clutter Hotspot: Countertops
Whether we talk about the bathroom or the kitchen ones, it’s no doubt that countertops are one of the areas with highest clutter levels in your home. These spots become a victim of our daily activities and usually get cluttered with things that we do use - make-up, shampoos, skin-care products in the bathroom. All of it looks chaotic and is a bit annoying when you look for your favorites in a hurry. Keep your most used items under control with trays - big and small - and stash everything else in your drawers, after all, that’s their purpose.
#5 Clutter Hotspot: Solutions
Guess what. Your clutter solutions can also suffer from clutter. That’s right. Now that you have your basket on top of the fridge, you probably think you have all mess under control. Not really. You see, once you’ve purged all excess stuff away from the hot zones, they will usually find other places to chill and, well, clutter. That’s why you should try to avoid stashing stuff in the first place. Other than that, learn how to accept these hotspots. They are a part of every household, no matter how big or small. Don’t stress too much about it, it’s just another aspect of life. Even professional cleaners suffer from clutter and they know that there’s no way to have your home spotless at all times.
